The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is responsible for enforcing federal laws that make it illegal to discriminate against a job applicant or an employee because of the person's race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, transgender status, and sexual orientation),national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
Preventing employment discrimination from occurring in the workplace in the first place ispreferable to remedying the consequences of discrimination. The EEOC is committed to providingtraining, technical assistance, outreach and education programs on any matter related to EEO laws. The EEOC believes that discrimination can be averted if organizations and individuals know theirrights and responsibilities.
