Roane Chamber Presents Both State and Local Government Agendas to Officials
New Format for Both Meeting and Agendas at Annual Breakfast

Roane County, TN – The Roane County Chamber hosted their annual legislative breakfast Monday, January 12 at Roane State Community College.  Both the format of the meeting and the legislative agenda were different this year which also included a local government agenda.   Both the state and local agenda focused on three key points and were presented by the Roane County Chamber Board of Directors and the Community Development Committee to the elected officials.

“This year we wanted to focus on what our business community needed, and advocate for them as the Chamber,” said Chamber President Wade Creswell, The Roane Alliance.  “I don’t think the Chamber has ever done this.” “The purposes of developing these agendas are to advocate for the interests of
Roane County’s business community and to provide our officials information that can
help shape constructive public policy as our county and cities stand poised for growth,” said Creswell.

State Senator Ken Yager and State Representative Kent Calfee were in attendance, along with local officials - County Executive Ron Woody, Kingston City Mayor Tim Neal and Harriman City Mayor Chris Mason.
Both state and local officials were given an opportunity to address the Legislative agendas to those in attendance, which included a crowd of chamber members, other city and county officials, and local media.
In the Local Government Agenda the Chamber advocates for the following positions related to local government’s support of the business community by encouraging:

  • Shared services and formal collaboration among city, county and state agencies;
  • Regular meetings of public officials and departmental employees across city and county lines; and
  • Retail and industrial development through business and community-friendly policies.
In the Legislative Agenda to the State officials the Chamber advocates for the following legislative initiatives:
  • Support for a prepared, skilled and ready workforce with a focus on soft skills;
  • Continue health insurance reform efforts to create health care coverage options that are more affordable and available to small businesses; and
  • Support policies that promote the attraction and retention of industry and business into Roane County.
