Roane County Employers Association Meeting - "Preventing Violence in the Workplace: Active Threat Awareness, Preparedness and Response"
Presented by Thomas Carney, Certified Protection Professional
Workplace violence is the second leading cause of occupational injury and a leading cause of workplace deaths; the leading cause of death for women in the workplace.
Employers have a responsibility to provide a workplace that is “free from recognizable hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious harm to employees.” Managers and supervisors are responsible for initiating workplace violence prevention strategies. Those who ignore the threat and signs of violence or employee complaints about another employee’s behavior or who terminate employees without due process may create an environment for workplace violence.
Join Tom Carney to learn practical ways you can make your workplace a safer environment for everyone. He will address:
- What constitutes Workplace Violence
- Profile of Typical Perpetrator of Workplace Violence
- Recognizing Changes in Behavior and Pre-Incident Indicators
- Prevention of Active Threat/Workplace Violence Incidents
- Three Main Elements of an Effective Workplace Violence Prevention Program
- OSHA Guidelines
- Active Threat Response
It is critical for managers and supervisors to establish preventive measures that address workplace violence, and to address and correct issues with employees before a violent situation develops.
