State Championship Bike Race Part of Three River Rumble in May
ROANE COUNTY, TN – The annual Three River Rumble bike race rolls back into Roane County on May 14 and 15. Three River Rumble will feature more than 200 amateur cyclists competing in a Time Trial in Harriman on Saturday morning, a Criterium race in Rockwood on Saturday afternoon, and the Road Race on Sunday morning in Kingston. The Cities of Harriman, Kingston and Rockwood work together to bring this race to Roane County, along with the Roane Alliance.
New for 2016, the Rockwood Criterium has been selected by the Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association (TBRA) as the State Championship Criterium. In awarding the State Championship designation to Rockwood for 2016 and 2017, TBRA noted that “the quaint, quiet downtown nestled at the edge of the mountains sets the scene for an exciting and spectator-friendly criterium race…in only its third year…is becoming a staple on the TBRA calendar.”
“We are very excited that TBRA has selected Rockwood and the Three River Rumble to host the State Championship Criterium,” said race organizer Tim Tidwell of KnoxVelo. “With state championship jerseys on the line, and the growing reputation of the Rockwood Criterium as one of the best races in Tennessee, we expect the number of participants could increase two-fold.”
To celebrate the announcement and to kick off plans for all of the races, a reception will be held Thursday, March 10 at 5:30 pm at the Rockwood Event Center in downtown Rockwood. Light refreshments will be served and Roane Alliance and bike officials will be on hand to answer any questions merchants or the public may have.
Registration for the races is available online and local registration will be held on Friday, May 13 at The Roane Alliance, 1209 N. Kentucky Street, Kingston from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
In addition to the professional races, there will also be events for everyone to enjoy – especially the kids. On Saturday, May 14 in downtown Rockwood a Kid’s Bike Rodeo will be held from 2:30 – 4:30, with a kid’s bike race at 4:45. Kids can learn bike skills and safety and if anyone needs a helmet – they will get one.
