Roane County Employers Association Meeting - "Substance Abuse: What Managers & HR Professionals Can Do
Does substance abuse have an impact on your organization’s hiring, retention, performance, productivity, and on your employees’ quality of life?
According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, approximately 70% of drug users, binge and heavy drinkers and people with substance-use disorders are employed. In 2014, about 21.5 million Americans were classified with a substance use disorder.
Substance use and abuse appear in a number of ways in the workplace:

- Poor job performance
- Injuries or death
- Poor relationships
- Higher incidences of theft
- Lowered morale

When organizations make the health of their workers a priority, benefits are seen beyond the individual employee. Improved attendance, quality of work and overall morale can lead to the betterment of the entire organization. While substance use disorders are common, they are treatable. Workplace-based programs are key to recognizing symptoms early and connecting employees with the treatment they may need.
Our Speakers:
Sarah Harrison is the Executive Director of the Roane County Anti-Drug Coalition and has been in this role since 2007. She has been with the coalition since its inception in 2003 and managed the coalition’s development from a grassroots organization to an established community asset. With her leadership, Roane County has adopted a comprehensive substance abuse continuum combining policies and practices to reduce substance use through prevention; outpatient and residential treatment; ongoing recovery support services; and community-based relapse prevention. Ms. Harrison holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services; a Master of Science degree in Child and Family Studies with a specialization in Program Management; and is a Level II Certified Prevention Specialist.
Stacey Pratt is the Project Coordinator for Allies for Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) of Anderson County. She has been part of the coalition since it's inception in 2008 and has been in her current role since 2013. During this time she has implemented environmental strategies, worked to change local and state policy and strived to change community norms. Stacey has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration degree from King University. Stacey is a Level II Certified Prevention Specialist and has provided trainings on the local, state and national level.

Fees/Admission
Lunch is provided to Roane County Employers' Association (RCEA) members and first time representative of non-RCEA member organizations. Non-RCEA members pay $15 to attend the meeting. (Beginning in September 2016, the non-RCEA member cost will be $20 per person at each meeting.
